Do you ever find yourself thinking “I really need to go to the temple but I just don’t have the time?”
It’s a common thought, especially in the hectic and busy world we live in. Just when we think things will slow down, they seem to start speeding up! We know how hard it can be to find the time to attend the temple, but we also know how important it is – not only for our ancestors – but for all of us as members of the Church. Returning to the temple reminds us of the covenants we’ve made and just how important they are to our everyday life and salvation.
To help you find some time in your schedule, here are 6 simple tips that you can implement right away to give you that opportunity to find respite in the House of the Lord.
- Create a schedule and commit to it
Just as writing down goals is important to productivity, so is writing down a concrete schedule and working as hard as you can to stick to it. Be realistic about your schedule but put pen to the calendar and write down a day that you will attend the temple no matter what. When you write it down and form a concrete plan in your mind, it’s hard to stray from those plans.
- Cut out time-wasters
Whether it’s email, television or browsing Pinterest, it happens to the best of us most days of the week. We spend valuable time and waste it on things that don’t benefit us much. Take a hard look at your day by day activities and look for any time that you may have unintentionally wasted by doing something that isn’t terribly productive. This will make you more aware of where the hours in the day are going.
- Have your clothes ready
Every once in a blue moon, some free time will be given to us and leave us with nothing to do for a couple of hours. For instance, you get some time to spare while waiting for an order or prescription or to pick up a child from a friend’s house. Keep a Sunday outfit neatly in your trunk with shoes along with your temple dress and clothes. This way, when the spare time presents itself, all you need to do is show up to the temple with recommend in hand!
- Get up 2 hours earlier
Experts always say get up an hour earlier – but we’re saying devote one day a month to get up 2 hours earlier. That way you’ve got some time to get to the temple and participate in an ever important endowment session. It’ll be hard but if you only do it once a month, it’s still productive and won’t interfere too much with your biological clock!
- Save for a sitter
Finding time to go to the temple when you have kids to tend to is difficult, we know. It’s even more difficult when you have to hire someone to come and watch them. If money’s an issue, make it a goal to save your coins each month and see if you can come up with the cash for a sitter for a couple of hours. You’ll be glad you did!”
- Decide what’s most important
In the end, what’s most important to us seems to be the things that we prioritize the most. If the temple is an important goal that you’d like to have, prioritize your schedule so that the temple is at the top part of the list. Always remember that there is a time and a season for everything. If you’re schedule is particularly busy with newborn twins and a husband traveling or work, don’t put too much pressure on yourself. The Lord knows your heart!
